Studio Ghibli, the iconic Japanese animation studios, is set to release its first ever TV series ‘Ronja the Robber’s Daughter’ on Amazon Prime this year. The English dub will reportedly feature the voice of Gillian Anderson. The series is based on Swedish author Astrid Lindgren’s 1981 fantasy novel of the same name and the 26 episodes will follow a gang of woodland thieves led by a young girl, Ronia, and their adventures.

The series was directed by the son of the studio’s co-founder Hayao Miyazaki, Goro Miyazaki, who previously directed ‘Tales from Earthsea’ and ‘From Up on Poppy Hill’ for the studio. Studio Ghibli has a huge fan base across the world and is the leading creator of Japanese anime films, having brought us the critically acclaimed ‘Spirited Away’ and ‘The Wind Rises’ among numerous others.

Studio Ghibli have collaborated with Polygon Pictures on ‘Ronja the Robber’s Daughter,’ resulting in a mix of 3D CG animation with Ghibli’s character designs.
