Classic tailoring with quirky touches at Xander Zhou AW17

Today at London Fashion Week Men’s, Chinese designer Xander Zhou showcased a collection full of edgy outwear, sharp tailoring, stunning pops of colour, and quirky footwear and accessories. The AW17 collection, very appropriately for the season, was full of outerwear, seen in a variety of trench coats, long leather jackets and shearling coats in numerous colours, such as classic camel, shiny silver, and bright blue.

The business suit become oversized, utility clothing was updated with boilersuits in block colours, and cropped knitwear sat over smart shirts. There really was a spectacular array of coats and jackets, most notably a denim trench coat, suede-look oversized coat, a glossy silver trench coat, and Zhou’s oversized, almost off-the-shoulder, wrap-style jackets with batwing sleeves.

The whole collection had a brooding, edgy feel; sleek tailoring and work wear was given a punk spirit and made complete with quirky touches. There were some seriously eccentric hats: nightcaps in a range of colours that flopped to one side of the model’s head. Footwear also got quirky with brightly coloured, long lace-up boots, as well as a stylish, glossy update on the welly. Another wacky touch was the way many of the model’s ties were pushed to one side, brushed over their shoulder, creating a frenzied look.
