Spindle Selects: Tracks of the Week

All the music that we’ve been loving over the last 7 days.

Jeremih – I Think Of You (Official Video)

Jeremih is back this week giving you a perfect slice of naughties MTV nostalgia via the official video for ‘I Think Of You’. Featuring heavyweights Big Sean and Chris Brown, what was already a track destined to become one of 2017’s biggest summer jams now has a visual to further help the stars align. There’s something sentimental about watching Jeremih and co competing for the affections of a badass lady from the brownstone stoops of Brooklyn, take a watch below.

JAQ – ‘Machine’ ft Jordan Lisle (Raumakustik Remix)

The Bristol-based producer / songwriter is continuing to bubble under, this week making strides via a rollicking tech-house remix of new single ‘Machine’ courtesy of German cult techno kings Raumakustik. This is one for the deeper end of your weekend.

Sloes – ‘All In The Mind’

This London-based five piece look set for big things in 2017. Having already performed a session for BBC Radio 2 this year, they have now debuted the title track from upcoming EP ‘All In The Mind.’ Produced by Hugh Worskett (Michael Kiwanuka/Will Joseph Cook), ‘All In The Mind’ is an expansive, emotive and widescreen track, mixing in influences of indie and folk whilst underpinned with electronic glitches, choral backing vocals and orchestral rushes. Check out the band live when they play London’s Old Street Records on the 24th May.

Gorillaz – ‘The Apprentice’

The Gorillaz have released yet another single from their new album ‘Humanz’, which is set to drop this Friday (28th). The single is a bonus track on the album, featuring a massive collaboration from Rag’n’Bone Man, RAY BLK and rapper Zebra Katz. The band recently announced plans for an upcoming TV show, alongside a hugely anticipated tour and the already scheduled Demon Dayz festival.

Frank Ocean – ‘Lens’

Ocean dropped this track during the fourth episode of his Beats 1 show ‘blonded RADIO’. The track harks back to his ‘Nostalgia, Ultra’ days, featuring whirling electric piano and a distinct light auto-tune on his vocals. Ocean has also treated fans to a second version of the track featuring Travis Scott.

Luke Sital-Singh – ‘Oh My God’

Influenced by the likes of Ryam Adams and Damien Rice, Luke Sital-Singh, has released another new single from his upcoming album set to be released next month. The album drops alongside his 14-date UK tour. Add some spice to your coffee break playlist, with the challenge of returning to work with ‘Oh My God’ not firmly stuck in your head. Go on, try it.

STAC – ‘Me And You’

STAC’s compelling songwriting accompanies achingly beautiful melodies with a Badu-esq cool in soul-pop. Her upcoming EP ‘Perpetual’ features the previously released single ‘Me and You’, hailed by Gilles Peterson as the EP’s finest cut. It burns from staccato pianette and honeyed vocals into a glorious audio display of brass, strings, vocal harmonies, drum pads, electronic samples and a helicopter. An idiosyncratic mix of live and electronic sounds, the track captivates the quirky personality of the entire EP.

Blackbear – ‘Moodz’ Ft 24hrs

Taken from his recently released album ‘Digital Druglord’, Cali-based singer, songwriter and producer Blackbear has grown a solid following through Soundcloud and putting out music through his own independent label Beartrap. He’s worked with the likes of G-Eazy, Pharrell Williams and co-wrote Justin Bieber’s hit record ‘Boyfriend’. ‘Moodz’ is definitely one to zone out to.

ZAYN ft PARTYNEXTDOOR – ‘Still Got Time’

The recently released official video for the Zayn and PartyNextDoor’s single collab is sort of reminiscent to a party you would have seen in Channel 4’s cult teen series ‘Skins’. Filmed in London and directed by Calmatic, Zayn wanted to throw the “wildest house party imaginable”, he sure succeeded…

Elder Island – ‘Welcome State’

Fresh from announcing their European support tour with Glass Animals, Bristol based collective Elder Island deliver a new cut in the shape of ‘Welcome State’. The ethereal new track shows off a luxurious, languid side to their soulful signature sound. Expect heady guitar riffs, matched with emotive vocals from lead singer Katy. Catch the band next month at The Great Escape and main stage at Love Saves The Day. Watch the new track performed exclusively for Distillery below.

Lancey Foux – ‘Left Home’

The follow up to January’s collaborative project ‘Wild Goat’ where he enlisted the help of a crop elite talent including Kojey Radical, AJ Tracey and Jevon; 21 year East London rapper Lancey Foux releases distorted new drop ‘Left Home’. Delivering a dancehall infused sound against a delicious rolling beat, Foux has been teasing the track since last November and produced by Nova (credits include 6LACK “PRBLMS), ‘Left Home’ is a futuristic sound of which the young artist is channeling as his own unique calling card. One for the Friday night playlist.
