Bajan rising star Amelia Payne is about to make pop a whole lot more compelling. The Barbados born singer has given us a taste of what’s to come with her debut single, ‘Down.’ The sensual tune brings a much darker sound to pop than we are used to…
Bringing a touch of her homeland to her music, the singer takes elements of the Caribbean and mixes them with London-centric production. ‘Down’ is a captivating slow-burner; the wavering melodies taking you to a trance-like state. It’s Payne’s soothing vocals that make this track mesmerizing, and this atmosphere is emulated in the official video for ‘Down’ as it follows the pop starlet in a ‘one-take’ styled journey. Payne’s attention to detail comes to the forefront with her tight choreography and convincing delivery.
Payne’s life is one that has always been surrounded by music; at the young age of 7 she knew singing was her passion and quickly set about mastering her craft. In her teens, she took vocal training and practiced song-writing, and at a mere 13-years-old Payne was already writing her own music that saw local success across Bajan TV and radio.
Since then Payne hasn’t stopped working, improving her songwriting skills that have now brought her to London. Payne is currently working on her forthcoming EP, and with ‘Down’ it’s only a matter of time before everyone falls under Payne’s spell.
Taking pop to this level so early in her career shows that Payne has a uniquely bright future ahead. This is a popstar ready to bring her sound to a global scale.
