After a too-long run of grey days, the sun is finally starting to shine again on New York City. Enjoy the beginning of another bright, beautiful summer season with these six June events throughout the five boroughs.
Kicking off the month with Alfred Hitchcock’s “Vertigo”, Rooftop Cinema Club is NYC’s version of an open-air movie theater. Held at either Midtown Manhattan’s YOTEL or East Williamsburg’s OfficeOps, the experience is not complete without their bottomless popcorn special, comfy seating, and BYO option for drinks. With a variety of showtimes and films to choose from, there’s something for everyone.

2.) Wednesday, June 7th – Sunday, August 6th 2017
Held at the Park Avenue Armory for the duration of the summer, this immersive art show is by Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre De Neuron and artist/activist Ai WeiWei. Referencing the children’s story of “Hansel and Gretel”, the three visionaries tackled the subject of surveillance scandals in the modern world. Through the use of infrared cameras and surveillance drones, visitors’ every moves are recorded leaving them wondering if they’re being watched…or maybe even followed.

3.) Friday, June 9th 2017
Starting at 4PM sharp, Howl! Art Gallery will be putting on its monthly Full Moon Show of performance art, rituals, and blessings. As a special tribute to Tom Murrin AKA the Alien Comic, performance artists will be continuing the tradition that The Godfather of Performance Art himself, started. Performances will take place in both the gallery and pop up shows in the street.

4.) Saturday, June 10th – Sunday, June 11th 2017
This 12-year old event has become one of NYC’s most beloved and quirky summer traditions. Held on Governor’s Island, thousands come together to spend a weekend dressed in the Jazz Age’s finest. Lawn games, drinking exquisite cocktails, and learning the Charleston are just some of the 20’s-oriented activities you can take part in.

5.) Saturday, June 17th 2017
The 35th annual parade is the United State’s largest art parade. This year’s featured King and Queen are Chris Stein and Debbie Harry of Blondie. With motorized floats, antique cars, and costumed marchers, there’s an endless array of sights to see at this unique parade.
When: 1PM, Saturday June 17th
Where: starts at West 21st Street and Surf Avenue and ends at Steeplechase Plaza
6.) Sunday, June 25th 2017
This year’s Pride celebration is going to be one for the history books; after 48 years of fighting, not to mention 2016’s turn-out of over 2 million people, the march is finally going to be televised. The five boroughs of NYC come together on this one day to party, protest, and celebrate a rich history of a culture that has worked hard to be recognized. Don’t miss an unforgettable way to close an already wonderful start to your summer.
