Spindle Selects: Tracks of the Week

Dive into the sounds that have been keeping us awake at night, for all of the right reasons.

SZA – ‘Broken Clocks’

SZA looks primed to take over this summer. The TDE artist has dropped some of the year’s strongest tracks already with ‘Drew Barrymore’ and recent release ‘Love Galore’, and now she’s back with the gorgeous yet low-key punchy ‘Broken Clocks’. Her much-delayed debut album ‘CTRL’ is set for release tomorrow, so prep yourself below.

Todd Terje – ‘Maskindans’ feat. Det Gylne Triangel

Norwegian disco lord Todd Terje is back with a new single and it’s as consistently fun as ever. After his debut album ‘It’s Album Time’ hit the big-time, the upcoming follow-up is set to be called ‘Numero Twomero’ and if ‘Maskindans’ is anything to go by, it’s going to be another bop-fest.

Arcade Fire – ‘Everything Now’

Keeping with the disco vibe, Arcade Fire have unleashed new single ‘Everything Now’, taken from their upcoming album of the same name. It was produced by the band alongside Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter and Pulp’s Steve Mackey, and you’ll hear those summer disco sounds right from the opening piano chords, which people are noting for their similarity to ABBA. Now there’s a comparison we didn’t think would ever be made. Amazing.

Litany – ‘Flaws’

Litany (aka Beth Cornell and Jake Nicolaides) have just released their debut EP 4 Track, which  features brand new music as well as latest fan favourite Flaws. The EP conveys the British duo’s signature brand of alternative pop and layered melodies, while the lyrics tell personal stories and experiences of the band. The EP kicks off with the pure and fragile sound of  ‘Flaws’, a track that received 500k+ streams within the first month. Following on from supporting Krrum and Plaitum in their hometown Leeds, Litany also announce their debut headline show in London on Wednesday 4thOctober at Electrowerkz.

Alice Kristiansen – ‘Lost My Mind’

Alice Kristiansen, a popular cover artist on YouTube with 454k subscribers released a new, beautiful, and haunting single last Friday. Many artists who start on YouTube by doing covers often find it hard to please their fans when they come out with their own original songs but Alice Kristiansen doesn’t disappoint. She could never really disappoint when she has a voice as beautiful and soothing as she does. You can truly hear and feel the emotion in this single as she sings about going slightly crazy because she can’t stop thinking about someone she lost.

DJ Khaled ft. Drake – ‘To the Max’

This new track released by DJ Khaled, who has been busting out hits from left to right, has a slightly different sound from what he’s released in the past. Khaled brings a more low-key genre to the stage called ‘Jersey Club’ by collaborating and remixing the track with Jersey Club pioneer, DJ Jayhood. With this different sound and Drake dropping bars throughout the whole song, it is sure to attract lots of attention as a track people could be jamming to all summer long.

Ansel Elgort ft. Logic – ‘You Can Count On Me’

Ansel Elgort, popular actor in young adult films such as Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars, also turns out to have a knack for DJ-ing and has released a track that he sang on and produced himself. The track features sweet lyrics about love lasting through good and bad times, sung by Elgort with American rapper, Logic, throwing a few lines in the bridge. It’s a very catchy pop song; who knew Ansel was such a triple threat – being able to sing, produce his own music, and act!

Adal –  ‘Fire to You’

Adal’s track gives a very wavy 80’s vibe which we can hear in the beat and the repeating electronic “ahs” that seem to glow. With Adal’s soothing vocal matching sweetly with Freja’s beautiful tone, the track flows easily and combines a nostalgic 80’s melody while also making it relevant and contemporary in today’s music scene.

Santino Le Saint – ‘4AM’ video

Brixton based Santino Le Saint releases the dark and trippy official video for his new single ‘4AM’. Taken from his upcoming EP ‘CLOUD 304’, Santino is set to break waves with a new sound that has influences from trap, r&b, indie and rock. Very much excited to hear ‘CLOUD 304’ when it drops!

FEMME – ‘Fire With Fire’

Our pink-haired fave FEMME is back with hot new single ‘Fire With Fire’. The infectious new single has old-school garage vibes to it, reminiscent of Sweet Female Attitude and T2. We now see FEMME return to her more indie-electro roots. Definitely worth a listen.
