Following the impressive introductory release ‘Call Me Danger’, and being named as one of The Guardians ‘Future 50’, alongside Jorja Smith and Francis and The Lights, Tayla enters 2017 with one of the years most distinctive new releases. The Birmingham native has her sights set firmly on the crown, and if this track is anything to go by then who are we to disagree. A 10/10 banger.
Nina – ‘One Of Us’
NINA is a German pop singer and songwriter based in London One Of Us was co-written by NINA and Oscillian and mixed by Grammy award winner Liam Nolan, notably known for his work on Adele’s album 25. Reflecting on her influence of 80’s synth-pop artists, in ‘One Of Us’ NINA presents an eclectic style that paces with the sparse instrumental atmosphere in verses but feels powerfully intimate in the choruses.
L.A Caseley – Wcsbf (We Can Still Be Friends)
Soul-pop newcomer L.A Caseley launches her debut track with the feel good offering of ‘wcsbf’ (We Can Still Be Friends). The 22 year old Londoner impresses with this warm, shimmery summertime track that shows off her smooth soulful vocal. The track has a lazy, languid feel to it and Lili (L.A) cites influences as far wide and reaching as Tink, Frank Ocean, Bon Iver, Beyonce and poets including JD Salinger,Rumi.
Etta Bond – ‘Addiction’
Etta releases another smouldering r&b cut from her upcoming collaboration EP with Chris Loco in the shape of ‘Addiction’. A defiant piece of songwriting from the Cambridge born artist, speaking on the track; “This song is about how a person can be just as addictive as any substance. In my life, love has been the most powerful drug.” Catch Etta playing the last ever Secret Garden Party later this summer.
THRDL!FE – ‘Can’t Buy Love’ feat. SAARA
THRDL!FE is crashing onto the scene with their first official single, ‘Can’t Buy Love’, which comes after great anticipation following the news of them working in the studio with some of the biggest songwriters, including Ester Dean (Rihanna). After the massive success of their remix of a London Grammar song, the duo has delivered this upbeat, summer-ready hit. SAARA, a Finnish native, supplies the incredible vocals that make this track perfect for the dance floor. ‘Can’t Buy Love’ is undeniably addictive and makes THRDL!FE one to watch in the coming months.
Imagine Dragon – ‘Walking The Wire’
‘Walking The Wire’ is the newest release from Imagine Dragons’ highly anticipated third studio album, ‘Evolve,’ which is set to be released on June 23. The anthemic vibes make the track one that you instantly want to sing along to all summer long. Lead vocalist, Dan Reynolds, once again conveys the raw emotions in the lyrics, and is accompanied by the easily distinguished drumbeat that is present in so many of the band’s songs. ‘Walking The Wire’ is a great addition to the tracks that have already been released from this album.
Rhys Lewis- ‘I Know the Feeling’
Rhys Lewis is back with another soulful and uplifting single that he masterfully performs accompanied by his guitar. ‘I Know the Feeling’ is a remarkably relatable track that draws directly from the struggles in his own life and those of a close friend. The England native views his songwriting as ‘free therapy,’ which is heard not only in the beautiful lyrics, but also by the passion and emotion conveyed by the vocal performance.
FEMME- ‘Fire with Fire’
The brassy, garage-inflected tune of ‘Fire with Fire’ is FEMME’s newest release since her debut album last year. As a composer, producer, director, and choreographer, FEMME is completely in control of her musical vision. Her dedication to autonomy is so unwavering that she has eschewed major label interest, which results in an artistry that continues to evolve as she pushes herself musically. This hot new track is just the beginning for FEMME as she works to release her sophomore album in early 2018.
DJ Khaled ft. Rihanna and Bryson Tiller – ‘Wild Thoughts’
DJ Khaled is back, yet again, with another track featuring a collaboration between two of the biggest artists in the hip-hop R&B world, Rihanna and Bryson Tiller. The track has a very Latin twang to it with the guitar riffs that constantly intertwine with a groovy beat. The video is very vibrant and sultry in true sensual, Rihanna fashion with lively street parties and even Rihanna, DJ Khaled, and Bryson Tiller singing along to the song while fireworks explode in the background. With all the party vibes that this tune emanates, it is sure to be a hit in dance clubs everywhere.
Icona Pop – ‘GIRLS GIRLS’
Icona Pop returns with another upbeat, feel-good, dance track. With a tropical vibe, this song exudes summer sensations so we can definitely see this song becoming a summer anthem just like their last summer hit from 2013, ‘I Love It’. With lyrics that sing, “Girls, girls, wanna feel it, hearts pumping, overheating, girls, girls, live and breathe it, hearts broke a million times, around we dance it off….” Icona Pop recount how fun it is to be a girl and set the stage for the track to become a feminist chant that girls everywhere can scream from the top of their lungs while they’re having fun during the summer time.
