Spindle Selects: Tracks of the Week

All the best sounds from the last 7 days.

Hannah Jane Lewis – ‘Raincheck’

Hannah Jane Lewis is back and she’s ready to be UK pop’s new saviour. ‘Raincheck’ is absolutely masterful – think of the euphoria of Carly Rae Jepsen choruses and the slick pop nous of Katy Perry with a UK twist. It follows a string of self-released tracks from the upcoming pop star, but this is her first since signing to a major label and the progression is clear. This is your new sing-out-loud post-summer anthem.

Rae Morris – ‘Do It’

Who knew Rae Morris was going to be responsible for one of the best songs of 2017? After returning earlier this year with ‘Reborn’ it was clear the Blackpool singer songwriter was stepping things up and heading in a bigger, poppier direction, but none of us foresaw the unfathomable brilliance of new single ‘Do It’. This is her biggest track yet, and it comes paired with one of the year’s best videos too. Feel free, charmed, spirited, motivated, positive, dancey, hip shakey and euphoric below.

Lorde ft. Khalid, Post Malone & SZA – Homemade Dynamite (Remix)

After days of teasing via social media, Lorde finally dropped the star-studded remix for new single ‘Homemade Dynamite’, featuring woman-of-the-moment SZA and men-of-the-moment Khalid and Post Malone. It’s a ten out of ten line up for a new spin on a fan favourite from ‘Melodrama’, and the resulting remix doesn’t disappoint.

MUNA – ‘In My Way’

Following their debut album ‘About U’ earlier this year, brilliant three-piece MUNA have followed it up with new single ‘In My Way’. It’s well documented by now that the LA trio are masterful power-pop creators, but ‘In My Way’ somehow manages to reach new anthemic heights.

Jessie Ware – ‘Alone’

Just when you were settling into the current Jessie Ware album campaign thinking it was all very nice, she drops soaring career highlight ‘Alone’. This is Jessie at her best; ‘Alone’ is home to one of the most life-affirmingly warm, lovely choruses she’s ever released. It was co-written with Kid Harpoon, who also helped on ‘Wildest Moments’, and is “about stealing time with your loved one, and longing for the simple declaration that they want the same.”

The Killers- ‘Some Kind of Love’

The Killers are back with their highly anticipated, fifth album featuring ‘Some Kind of Love.’ Brandon Flowers, lead-singer and keyboardist, holds this track close to heart. He dedicated the record to his wife who has dealt with PTSD. The band had the opportunity to work with Brian Eno who gave them permission to use instrumentals from his track ‘Ending (Ascent)’ as a basis for the song. Their album, ‘Run for Cover’ is out today.

Angus and Julia Stone- ‘Snow’

The Australian brother/sister duo is back with their newest album featuring, ‘Snow.’ After taking some time apart to pursue solo careers, the siblings decided to work together again to produce their third studio album. Angus and Julia Stone are known for their call and response vocal technique, and this song is no different. They have mastered a minimalistic, folk sound, making them very successful in the Indie genre.

Lights- ‘New Fears’

This Canadian Alt/Pop singer strikes again with her hit new record ‘New Fears.’ This is the fourth single she released this year as a teaser for her fourth studio album ‘Skin&Earth.’ Lights delivers strong vocals on this track with a sound compared to Banks and PVRIS.

Labrinth- ‘Misbehaving’

If you’ve seen Apple’s new commercial featuring the new Apple Watch Series 3, you may have heard Labrinth’s new catchy tune in the background. He’s been working on his forthcoming album for quite some time, and the response for ‘Misbehaving’ has been nothing, but positive. Labrinth is not only a legendary singer, but also a successful producer, having worked with artists like The Weeknd and Emeli Sande. We love this!

Craig David – ‘Heartline’

Produced by Jonas Blue, Craig releases this catchy new bop which has been revealed to be from his upcoming album ‘The Time Is Now’ set to be released in January 2018. Features on the album includes Goldlink, Ella Mai, AJ Tracey, JP Cooper, Kaytranada and Bastille!

NAO – ‘Nostalgia’

Funky R&B ’Nostalgia’ is a one-off single released from the East London singer who’s said to now be in hiding writing her next album. After dropping her hugely successful debut album ‘For All We Know’ last year, we can only expect more exceptional music to come.
