Spindle Selects: Tracks of the Week

Your weekly round-up of the best new sounds.

Selena Gomez and Marshmello – ‘Wolves’

Selena Gomez strikes again with another EDM collaboration, this time with DJ Marshmello. This is the third single off her forthcoming album and showcases a new side of the iconic pop-singer. ‘Wolves’ has a darker sound than ‘It Ain’t Me’, her previous track with Kygo, with psychedelic beats and heavier lyrics. Her voice booms on the record when she sings ‘I’ve been running with the wolves, to get to you.’ We can’t wait to hear what’s in store for her new album.

Don Diablo feat. ARIZONA – ‘Take Her Place’

This collaboration fuse both indie and dance-pop genres together, creating a perfect new track. ‘Take Her Place’ is the second single off Don Diablo’s forthcoming album. ARIZONA brings an energetic sound to the record with soothing vocals in contrast to Diablo’s usual heavy EDM beats. This unique pairing is definitely worth checking out!

MisterWives – ‘Never Give Up On Me’

MisterWives is back with a brand new single, ‘Never Give Up On Me.’ The band just finished their massive tour after releasing their album ‘Connect The Dots’ back in May. Lead singer, Mandy Lee belts the chorus with her distinct indie voice. The record is heavily guitar based and combines both rock and pop. The song is something you can’t help, but to clap along to.

PnB Rock feat. Russ – ‘Issues’

PnB Rock collaborates with rising rapper, Russ for his new single, ‘Issues.’ The song is about reflecting back on relationship struggles as PnB sings ‘I got some issues, I know that, I can’t lie.’ Russ raps over a soothing yet trap-infused instrumental. Their voices blend together perfectly on the record to create a versatile new R&B hit.

Not3s – ‘My Lover’

Following his win at last week’s GRM Daily Rated Awards for ‘Best Breakthrough’, UK rapper Not3s released his latest single ‘My Lover’ ahead of his debut mixtape ‘Take Not3s’ which is soon to be released. Now nominated for two MOBO awards, there only seems to be bigger and better things coming from the emerging talent, so definitely one to keep your eyes peeled for.

Skrapz Ft Chip – ‘High Spec’

Taken from his new album ‘Different Cloth’ which debuted in the Top 20 on the Official UK albums chart, London based Skrapz takes us back to the city streets with fellow rapper Chip for ‘High Spec’. Check it out below.

Hudson Taylor – ‘Feel It Again (Acoustic)’

Already a huge hit in their native Ireland, brothers Alfie and Harry Hudson Taylor returned to the fold recently with new single ‘Feel It Again,’ the first new music since 2015 debut album ’Singing For Strangers’ and the duo have now shared the acoustic version of that single. Shorn of the original’s luscious instrumentation, the acoustic version – with just guitar, drums and delicate violin – offers a more intimate take on Hudson Taylor’s sound, with the duos harmonies, melodies and vocals taking centre stage in their infectious comeback.

Clean Bandit ft. Julia Michaels – ‘I Miss You’

Julia Michaels continues her winning streak with a feature on one of Clean Bandit’s better cuts. ‘I Miss You’ is the latest single from the Grammy Award-winning group and comes as a pared-down, simpler sound after recent bangers ‘Rockabye’ and ‘Symphony’. Michaels adds a tangible emotional depth to the track, with her trademark cut-through lyrics shining centre stage above Clean Bandit’s faultless production. Check out the self-directed video featuring the full band and Michaels below.

Avelino – ‘1 In A Million’
Avelino is ready to take it to the next level with new release ‘1 In A Million’, taken from his new playlist project ‘NO BULLSHIT’. The North London rapper has been one to watch for a while now, and ‘NO BULLSHIT’ sees him deliver on expectations. It’s a thoughtful, precise collection, and ‘1 In A Million’ comes as one of the collection’s more commercially-driven moments. Think ‘Passionfruit’ on Drake’s ‘More Life’.

Rhye – ‘Taste’
Indie R&B duo Rhye continue their return with new single ‘Taste’, helmed by producer-of-the-moment King Henry. It’s a slinky tease with an underlying groove, managing to be coy and playful but still with Rhye’s irresistible sophistication. It comes as the perfect soundtrack to your cozy evenings cooking with red wine as the winter nights draw in, so dive in below.

Madison Beer – ‘Say It To My Face’

Madison Beer had a swift rise to pop stardom – signed by Justin Bieber himself after posting an Etta James cover on YouTube, she has since been writing and releasing singles with Bieber’s label, Island Records. Her new offering, ‘Say It To My Face’ is the second song on her forthcoming EP, and projects power and confidence through addictive alt-pop. Listen below.
