Your weekly round-up of the best new sounds from the last 7 days.
Nick J.D.Hodgson – ‘Don’t Forget To Go To Sleep’
The third track to be lifted from Nick’s upcoming debut solo album ‘Tell Your Friends’ – out tomorrow – ‘Don’t Forget To Go To Sleep’ is the most psychedelic-sounding of his new material so far. With elements of Tame Impala, the track starts with delicate violin – played by Nick’s wife – and boasts an almost hip hop-esque drum beat, before another irresistible, singalong chorus takes hold.
485C – ‘Kapow!’
Already a firm favourite with Steve Lamacq at 6Music who included previous single ‘Strange Medicine’ in his Tracks of 2017 and Spotify who featured the same track in their ‘Best of the Indie List 2017,’ east London five piece 485C kick start 2018 with their new single ‘Kapow!’ a frenetic 2 and half minutes of wiry yet melodic guitar lines, thunderous drums and dreamy harmonies. The band’s as-yet-untitled album is due in March – one to keep an eye out for!
Mabel – ‘Fine Line (with Not3s)’
Mabel is back to follow up goliath hit ‘Finders Keepers’ with new single ‘Fine Line’, and it’s safe to say it’s a worthy successor. A collaboration with hotly-tipped London MC Not3s, you can almost hear the summer season creeping around the corner. Where 2017 saw ‘Finders Keepers’ spilling out of every open car window, ‘Fine Line’ is set to become 2018’s equivalent. Get yourself familiar below.
Rae Morris – ‘Lower the Tone’
Rae Morris continues drip-feeding us slice by perfect slice of her upcoming album, and this week it’s the turn of new track ‘Lower the Tone’ to shine. ‘Someone Out There’ is out in just a week, and ‘Lower the Tone’ is here to showcase a softer side to the LP, yet with the same sparkle and shine of pop powerhouses ‘Reborn’, ‘Do It’ and ‘Atletico (The Only One)’.
Feenixpawl – ‘Bones’ feat. Harley Knox & Ariana and the Rose
2018 has only just begun, but Feenixpawl are already taking steps to ensure that the new year will become one of their best yet. In tandem with Harley Knox and Spindle favourite Ariana and the Rose, the Australian duo unleash ‘Bones’, a truly tremendous song that will no doubt stake its claim as one of 2018s most infectious pop-dance crossover anthems.
Rejjie Snow -‘Egyptian Luvr’
Rejjie Snow is unique in that he is the only Dublin-based artist to sign on with Atlanta based label 300 entertainment, and has a distinctly different sound than their traditional roster of artists from the likes of Young Thung, Migos, and Fetty Wap. Nevertheless he makes an ambitious push towards his upcoming album release Dear Annie with the single ‘Egyptian Luvr’ which is a diverse product featuring the groovy production of Kaytranada and a feature from Portland based rapper Amine. With a roster this talented, we will be anxious to see where he will go with this exciting new project.
SG Lewis- ‘Aura’
SG Lewis is primed for a huge year in 2018 as he readies himself for a three phase album release in a unique mannerism titled ‘Dusk,Dark,Dawn’, which is meant to showcase sounds and moods that are felt throughout each part of an entire night. ‘Aura’ is a groovy track with an opening piano score that can be listened to on repeat in any mood and is really just a small glimpse of what is forthcoming from the talented London producer and songwriter coming this year.
Drake -‘God’s Plan’
Drake has done it again, having just been named Spotify’s top streamed artist of 2017, the record breaking MC has dropped a two song EP titled ‘Scary Hours’, which is led by the uptempo ‘God’s Plan’. The track has a classic Drake feel in which the Toronto native talks about how there are certain people out there wishing for the artist to fall from his seemingly unreachable pedestal. This track is a must hear, having already added another amazing feat to Drake’s long resume becoming the most streamed song in a single day in the US, amassing 4.3 million streams on January 22nd alone.
Tinashe Ft Offset – ‘No Drama’
Teaming up with Migos’ Offset, Tinashe gives us this absolute R&B / trap / pop banger. This release follows her Instagram post where she teased new tracks are on the way ahead of her highly anticipated and long awaited album ‘Joyride’. We cannot wait for this album to be released!
SAINT PHNX – ‘ONE’
‘One’ is a uplifting, all-inspiring anthem by the Glaswegian brothers. After a impressive 2017 selling out their headline tour in the UK and France as well as supporting rapper NF and Imagine Dragons, we look forward to seeing what’s next to come from the duo.
