Spindle Selects: Tracks of the Week

Thursday 18 January 2018

All the best music from the last 7 days.

Wood Chips – ‘Heartbeat’

Danish producer and songwriter Andreas Asingh might be a name familiar to some – he formerly went under the musical alias of Slowolf and collaborated with the likes of Raekwon and Kimbra. Following a near death experience involving his young son, Andreas escaped the urban metropolis of Copenhagen and took his family out to the Danish countryside to live on a ranch. It was here he started to work on new music that would eventually form Wood Chips with the track ‘Heartbeat’ the first fruits of this new found musical freedom and is at once delicate and fragile yet full of life, with gentle acoustic and steel guitar enveloping dreamy vocals and twinkling xylophone.

Hudson Taylor – ‘Run With Me’

Having returned to the fold last year with the single ‘Feel It Again,’ their first music since acclaimed debut album ‘Singing For Strangers’ was released in 2015, Irish duo Hudson Taylor start 2018 on a high with ‘Run With Me,’ a track that finds the brothers expanding their musical palette in to more a full band sound, complete lush harmonies and instantly hummable melodies. Be sure to check out the video that was made in conjunction with the Dogs Trust.

Adrian Daniel – ‘Deadly Attraction’

Smashing his way into 2018 is rising star Adrian Daniel, with new cut ‘Deadly Attraction’. The Brooklyn native is set to unleash new collection ‘FLAWD’ on March 2nd, as well as heading out on a U.S and European tour next month, calling on London on February 22nd. It’s set to be an exciting year for the versatile and auspicious talent, and we can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store for him.

Cautious Clay- ‘Juliet + Caesar’

Cautious Clay made a splash at the end of 2017 with his smooth and lyrically relatable record, ‘Cold War’. His 2018 debut ‘Juliet + Caesar’ gives us another look into the New-York based artists’ take on his difficulty surrounding his past relationships and has us excited for what’s to come next with his forthcoming EP in February, Blood Type.

Kali Uchis – ‘After The Storm’ feat. Tyler The Creator & Bootsy Collins.

Kali Uchis made a name for herself this past year through collaborations with some of the most talented acts in modern music, working with the likes of Miguel, Daniel Caesar, and Tyler the Creator. Now Tyler returns the favor making an appearance with Earth Wind and Fire’s Bootsy Collins on the sultry track ‘After the Storm’. This record is all about weathering dark times to reach the light and is a lead in to her upcoming album to be released this spring, Fool’s Paradise. Look out for her as she continues to convey her talent building off the success of 2017.

Tink ‘Breakin’ Me’

After a quiet 2017 with no news of when her highly anticipated debut album would be released, we hope that 2018 brings us more from the Chicago born talent. Now having released new single ‘Breakin Me’, this might be the year Tink really ramps things up with more nostalgic, contagious R&B gems.

Jorja Smith ft Stormzy ‘Let Me Down’

Recently crowned BRIT’s 2018 Critic’s Choice Award, Jorja is set to trump her groundbreaking year in 2017. This new release which features South London’s finest Stormzy, reaffirms her as a bright starlet on the cusp of global stardom. Excited to see what she has in store for us this year…

Troye Sivan – ‘My My My’

It’s only January but Troye Sivan might have just released the best single of the year. ‘My My My’ is glorious. A euphoric exhale of lust and love, it’s the peak of every good feeling you’ve ever felt. The video is equally iconic, channelling classic Madonna, George Michael and Michael Jackson… imagine managing to pull off all those references successfully. This is special, and consider us locked in for Troye’s upcoming album release later in the year.

Camila Cabello – ‘She Loves Control’

Camila Cabello, formerly of Fifth Harmony fame, has finally released her much-anticipated debut album ‘Camila’, and it’s every inch the pop perfection you’d hope. The promise of mega-hit ‘Havana’ is delivered across ten tracks (including current single release ‘Never Be The Same’), and it’s clear the next stand-out hit is the bombastic ‘She Loves Control’. An ode to all the sassy queens in control, the pop starlet delivers gold on an earworm hook of “she loves control, she wants it her way.” Mood.
