Spindle Selects: Tracks of the Week

Monday 30 April 2018

Is it safe to say that Spring has now sprung? The weather is getting warmer (touch wood), and it’s getting closer to summer banger season. In the meantime, pray that the weather stays above 10 degrees, and enjoy a handful of the best new music.

485c – Hoppy

With support coming from the likes of Steve Lamacq at 6Music and John Kennedy at Radio X, East London five piece follow up a string of impressive singles including last year’s Strange Medicine and 2018’s Kapow! with Hoppy, taken from their self-titled debut album out tomorrow (digitally) via iconic indie label Fierce Panda. Despite previous releases, Hoppy saunters in to action on a slowed down drum beat before quickly launching in to a spiky, guitar-driven anthem, reminiscent of early Artic Monkeys.

ABISHA – Project X

Spindle favourite ABISHA returns with her second single Project X, following on from last year’s debut All That. Combining sultry vocals and a soft bass, this record uniquely switches between a dark R&B feel to a slightly more upbeat alternative touch that has a type of ethereal beauty unrivalled by the current trend in modern R&B today. We <3 it!

Youngr – Drive

Youngr has officially announced summer 2018 according to his infectious new single Drive. Drive is the undeniable sleek summer anthem we’re all yearning for, with its slapping bass and punchy beats, combining aspects of EDM and Pop to create a sound that will most certainly stick in the heads of current and new fans alike. Youngr has proven once again his ability to combine multiple genres and sounds, whilst still maintaining his signature aesthetic. What a guy!

Rachel Foxx – Mistress

East London’s Rachel Foxx delivers a party infused visual for new cut Mistress, featuring Foxx and friends in a hazy, house party atmosphere shot by LDN documentary film maker Nathan Miller.  Taken from her upcoming FLAME EP, current single Mistress is a low key, languid, laid back R&B number which will make you want to move.

Following completing their huge global Press Restart tour that spanned the US and UK, WALK THE MOON releases their latest video for Kamikaze. Lifted from their album What If Nothing, the video was directed by Tobias Nathan, the man behind Miguel’s Coffee video.

Daniel Briskin ft Alista Marq – Colder Homes

At just sixteen years old, Daniel Briskin is already showing boundless potential to become the next top U.K. R&B artist. His debut album is set to be released later this year.

Megan Lara Mae – Caribou

21-year-old pop singer-songwriter, Megan Lara Mae channels her classical music training into her artistry creating ear-catching melodies polished with pristine electronic production. This is showcased by her electrifying new single Caribou, a song about not giving up and overcoming difficult situations. Her debut EP set to drop this year.

Louis the Child – Better Not ft Wafia

Louis the Child deliver a harmony-laced track built on steel drum tones, marimba rhythms, and brightly textured beats on Better Not. The duo’s first collaboration with Wafia, the song finds the Australian singer-songwriter threading her ethereal vocals through sweetly hopeful lyrics. She shares, ‘This song was such a sweet thing to write from a perspective I hadn’t explored before. Working with Robby and Freddy was so effortless and fun.
