Ariana and the Rose – Love You Lately (Roosevelt remix)
Spindle fave Ariana and the Rose is one busy superstar! Aside from curating a trilogy of her immersive Light + Space events in New York, she’s just found time to put out an incredible remix of her single Love You Lately. Originally a collaboration between Ariana and LA-based R&B/electro duo RKCB, the Roosevelt remix gives the gorgeously sombre bop a warmer interpretation with island guitars, siren synths and a summertime club beat.
Laurel – Lovesick
Rising UK star Laurel has announced her incredible debut album Dogviolet (out August 24th ), which is lead by infectious debut single Lovesick. Titled after the flower, Dogviolet is a deeply personal exploration of the bittersweet feeling of love. Lovesick sets the tone for the album, with open, sparse production revealing Laurel’s effortlessly emotive voice and the vintage warmth of her guitar playing.
FEET – Back Seat Driver
Newcomers FEET reveal their brand new single Back Seat Driver, which is another slice of the band’s very own raucous indie-pop, steeped in infectious melodies and brute force. The single comes with an awesome, animated video devised by front man Jeep who does all the band’s artwork too. ‘Jeep studies animation and illustration at uni so it’s a two birds one stoner job’ add the band. ‘The animation connects to the lyrics and pays homage to our guitarist Callum’s problematic road rage, which is as hilarious as it is terrifying’. Undoubtedly on the rise, FEET are set to play a heap of festivals including three shows at The Great Escape, Neighbourhood Weekender, Truck, Tramlines plus a trio of gigs back on the road with their pal Declan McKenna in June.
Leo Stannard – 5 Years Later
Having first come to people’s attention via a series of self-released singles, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Leo Stannard has certainly hit the ground running in 2018. Having already debuted Home, he’s quickly followed it up with 5 Years Later. Once again showcasing his unique songwriting craft and finger-plucked guitar skills whilst tapping out melodies and percussion at the same time, 5 Years Later is a beautiful heartfelt ballad that looks set to continue Leo’s ascent as a standout musical talent.
Paris Youth Foundation – Off The Button
Having caught the attention of Huw Stephens at Reading Festival when they played the BBC Introducing Stage – he subsequently named them in his Tips for 2018 – and with plaudits coming from the likes of NME, along with tours supporting the likes of The Magic Gang, Haus and Blaenavon, The Off Button is Liverpool band Paris Youth Foundation’s fifth single release and is a frenetic 4 minutes of irresistible indie-rock from the fast-rising five piece. Having already played Liverpool Sound City this year, the band head to Y Not Festival and The Downs in Bristol – be sure to catch them before it’s too late.
Sonny – Ain’t Too Proud To Beg
Sonny enters 2018 with new single Ain’t Too Proud To Beg, his most sincere track to date. Mixed by Joe Zook (One Republic, Pharrell Williams, U2, One Direction), Sonny’s new single takes us back into his memory of a past failed relationship wishing the mistakes that were made never caused it to end – something many of us can relate to. Catch Sonny at The Great Escape next week and also supporting Saint Raymond on tour in June! His forthcoming EP is set to be released this year.
Borussia ft Malvina – Vuole Ballare
Hailing from Paris, Borussia brings his latest track Vuole Ballare (feat. Malvina) which directly translates to If You Want To Dance. Borussia’s full EP Se Vuoi Ballare (out now) is 4 synth-filled disco tracks, created using digital tools and samples. If you want to get hyped up for your Friday night out after a long day at work, Vuole Ballare is the track for you.
Childish Gambino – This Is America
If you haven’t been living under a rock, I’m sure you’ve heard about Childish Gambino’s girpping and powerful video for This Is America. Not one to hold out on publicly viewing his thoughts on tough issues. Gambino ties in different topics that are affecting the Black community is America. The video has become one of the most talked about subject in the music sphere/pop culture this week and has amassed over 62 million views in 5 days!
