Charlie Sloth, ‘The People’s Prince’, steps down from Radio 1 and 1Xtra after nearly a decade.

Currently presenting The 8th and The Rap Show and previously at the helm of 1Xtra drive time, Charlie Sloth announced the news, saying: “Ten of the best years of my life, I want to say a huge thank you to everybody who has listened to me over the years and supported me in everything I have done, I love you, and the journey continues. I joined the BBC as a boy and I leave as a man.”  DJs, presenters and listeners all paid tribute to the DJ following the announcement. The controller of BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, Ben Cooper, said: “Thank you to Charlie for being an important part of Radio 1 and 1Xtra’s history – for nearly 10 years his passion and energy for his music and his shows has been second to none.” Sloth is reportedly set to be following in Zane Lowe’s footsteps, joining Apple Music. The news of his departure follows DJ Semtex’s announcement that he too is leaving 1Xtra to begin a new venture at Spotify.
