All the details of the Met Gala 2019 have now been announced!
Following Harry Styles’ style evolution, he has forged quite the name for himself within the fashion world. Who would have predicted that Styles circa 2010 would feature on Gucci’s latest campaign? And if that wasn’t enough to cement his position at the highest of point in fashion, then the news that he is co-chairing next year’s Met Gala certainly will! He will share the honour with Lady Gaga, Serena Williams, Alessandro Michele and Anna Wintour.
The annual soirée, held on the first Monday of May at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, as part of the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, is heralded as ‘fashion’s biggest night’.
After this year’s ‘Heavenly Bodies’ theme, next year’s gala is set to be the most outlandish yet! Over-the-top fashion will be celebrated all thanks to the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition theme, ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’, inspired by Susan Sontag’s seminal 1964 essay ‘Notes on Camp’, which discusses the different ways Camp can be explored and defined.
Alessandro Michele, creative director of Gucci discusses his involvement, expressing to The New York Times that there are “huge misunderstandings about the real meaning of the word”. Sponsored by Gucci, the gala will shed light on what Camp really means: “the unique ability of combining high art and pop culture”.
While we count down the days until May 6 2019, we can dream about what Rihanna, who’s been lauded as the unofficial queen of the Met Ball, will wear.
