Polo Ralph Lauren X Palace

Tuesday 23 October 2018

Streetwear fans were sent into a collective hysteria last week as three billboards popped up in Tokyo’s Shibua district depicting Polo Ralph Lauren’s trademark horse-riding jockey above Palace Skateboard’s capitalized and italicized logo with no clue of what it meant.

Keeping quiet until yesterday morning, both brands revealed on Instagram-albeit in different ways-that a collaboration is soon upon us. The always aloof Palace posted: “PALACE RALPH LAUREN” meanwhile Polo Ralph Lauren posted: “Polo Ralph Lauren is a timeless collection that represents a love letter from a young London skateboard company to their favorite brand in the universe.”

Speaking to Business of Fashion Monday morning, Palace founder Lev Tanju said: “It’s the only brand that you can wear to a board meeting, a funeral and go to the football in — and all in the same day.”

The collaboration is said to feature menswear that will include outerwear, trousers, button-down oxford shirts, preppy polo shirts and accessories which, of course, will have the mash up logo of both brands embroidered on them. It will also sit within Palace’s usual price points with jackets going for around £180 and shirts for around £98.

Garth Skewis, Co-Owner of Palace, said about the upcoming partnership, “Collaborations — it’s what people do now, it’s like seasons,” before continuing “for me and Lev, this is a massive moment for us and a real pinnacle.”

Fashion’s love affair with collaborations could not be farther from over and we are not mad about it. Even though we are being kept in the dark about this surprising collection, we’re thrilled to see what these two iconic brands create. The drop is supposed to be imminent, so keep an eye out on social media because the clothes will most likely sell out before you blink.
