Childish Gambino’s 2018 PHAROS Festival took place on the 23rd, 24th, and 25th of November in New Zealand. At the concerts, worshippers of Donald Glover’s talent were granted a sneak peak of his latest project: a film titled Guava Island.
A fan in attendance captured the full, two-minute movie trailer from afar and posted it on Twitter on Saturday.

The credits which appear in the sneak peak bill Guava Island as ‘A Childish Gambino Film’ that will star Donald Glover himself, Rihanna, Black Panther talent Letitia Wright, and Nonso Anozie.
The trailer begins with Glover calmly strumming a guitar while talking to and receiving kind words from Rihanna’s character, who is apparently his girlfriend. The visual quickly takes a turn, however, and includes shots of Glover running around, being held hostage, jumping onto moving vehicles, and performing.
Voiceover dialogue in the clip includes the following lines: “We live in paradise but none of us actually have the time or the means to live here. We work hard. We deserve a day off. We’re just takin’ what’s ours.”
It has been reported that Guava Island was shot in Cuba and directed by Hiro Murai, who directed Childish Gambino’s famed ‘This Is America’ music video. Watch Murai’s work, viewed more than 400 million times, below:
At this time, neither Donald Glover nor Rihanna have said a word about Guava Island on social media. However, several photos of the two in Cuba surfaced online back in August.

Letitia Wright was asked for comment on the film, but told Hollywood Reporter, “I can’t tell you anything. I don’t even know … what is Guava island? I have no clue. I don’t know anything. I don’t even know where they got my name from!”
This is not the first time Donald Glover has used his PHAROS Festival to announce his upcoming releases. In 2016, at the very first PHAROS Festival in Joshua Tree National Park, California, music from Childish Gambino’s then-unreleased album ‘Awaken, My Love!’ was previewed.
Both Rihanna and Donald Glover are not strangers to the screen. Rihanna played a major role in Ocean’s 8, a blockbuster released in June 2018, and Glover stars in his own successful comedy, television-series Atlanta. The internet is impatient as ever to learn further details regarding their collaborative effort.
