Friday 18 January 2019

21-year-old up and coming artist BAD CHILD is an act that will leave the heart strings pulled and the mind running. The Canadian-born artist is a self-taught musician that oozes emotional vulnerability within his music.

With the release of his newest single PAYBACK and video for self-titled track BAD CHILD, there is no stopping this rising talent

We got a chance to chat and discuss his new video, his music origins and more…

You released your music video for single BAD CHILD can you describe the direction you wanted for this video?

To me this video is a Bildungsroman (coming of age story) from a very retro future perspective. The video is very much about how people use each other & the rigidity of society. It’s a bit dystopic but I think quite close to reality.

When creating emotional and deep tracks like BAD CHILD and PAYBACK, what experience’s do you grab from?

I find myself drawing from reality quite a bit. BAD CHILD was a pivotal moment in my life – it was how I found any solace when my mother passed away. I was only 16 when she passed that song was percolating inside of me for a while. It has to be real.

When did realise you wanted to pursue music?

I had wanted to be a photojournalist but music was the first thing that had worked for me. After high school I became very serious about making music my life.

With two amazing singles out and performance’s on the horizon, can you let us in on your EP/album debut? How is the process going?

The album is finalized, I worked on it for two years and it’s looking like 2019 will be a good year.

Who are your top 5 artists that inspire you personally and musically?

1.      Trent Reznor

2.      Thom Yorke

3.      James Blake

4.      Kanye west

5.      John Williams

What venue, festival or arena would be your dream place to perform at?

To me Glastonbury would be incredible so much history.

Going forward what can we expect from BAD CHILD? and what do you want to achieve?

There is going to be quite a bit of music coming on in the near future. I’m looking forward to the conversation that the record spawns. I want people to dissect the Free Trial it’s very conceptual.
