Your new song ‘Weak for You’ describes the relatable feeling of love that gives you butterflies – was there a specific experience that inspired you to write this song?

Yes, it was! I’ve been in love a few times in my life (3 times to be exact), and I tried to capture the feeling in the beginning of the relationships I’ve been in. That wonderful, but hazy time when you’re constantly wondering if he feels the same way as you, etc. It’s a very intense time, but also a very fun time.

How would you describe your sound?

I’d say it’s melodic electro-pop with an organic feel and personal lyrics.

Who are some of your biggest influences when making music?

My songwriting idols are mostly female, I think it’s because I find it easier to identify with them. I love Tori Amos and Alanis Morissette, and I’ve been very vocal about my love for Taylor Swift’s songwriting. Her lyrics are so well thought-out and incredibly relatable.

How did it feel when your songs ‘Stay’ and ‘You Don’t Own Me’ started gaining thousands – and eventually one million – plays?

Really amazing to see how many people connected with those songs. It seems like “Stay” hits people in the guts, when I go on YouTube and read the comments, I cry. I was at my most vulnerable writing both “Stay” and “You Dont Own Me”, and I guess that’s why people are connecting with those songs.

Where do you look for inspiration while writing songs?

I usually draw inspiration from my own life and the things I experience. Sometimes also reading the news or watching a great movie can trigger something in me. I’m a very sensitive person so I pick up on a lot of energies and moods, which sends me into an emotional overdrive at times. A little exhausting, but quite helpful when it comes to songwriting. I’m also really inspired by the nature and the ocean. I want to buy a house by the sea when I’m old, and just swim and write poems all day long.

You went on tour with Gavin James recently, what was that experience like for you?

Such a fun tour and lovely crowds! We had the best time, and Gavin was just as nice as you’d imagine. Also, his pitch is perfect (I’m jealous!)

What are your goals for the rest of the year?

To keep releasing music I’m proud of. I have something new coming out each month which is quite insane. I have an acoustic EP dropping at end of August, then another single, and then another EP. So yeah, keeping myself busy!

What kinds of songs can we expect from your upcoming EP?

I’m definetley trying to be as honest and raw as I can in my music. I strive to make myself (and possibly others) a little uncomfortable.  I find that when I dig really deep and express myself without holding back, that’s when I’m able to create a bond with the listener. There will be some slow songs and some more upbeat songs, but the common thread is that they’re all really emotional ๐Ÿ™‚
