Premiere: Kyd the Band And Elley Duhé ‘Easy’

Friday 21 June 2019

Devin Guisande better known as Kyd the Band is continuing his rise within the industry with his new single Easy’ featuring Elley Duhé!

Music has always been a source of happiness for the the emerging artist. From playing the drums in his father’s church, joining a band at the age of 15, and writing his first batch of songs at 18, his passion and goals have steadily grown and developed.

After spending a bit of time in L.A., Guisande took the leap of faith, and packed his bags for Nashville, Tennessee to hone his craft. His journey wasn’t easy, working in 40+ hour a day while using every ounce of freetime to record music. After a few years of hard work and paying his dues, the singer-songwriter made traction in the industry, working with artists like Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, gnash, and more!

Now he’s ready to show the world what he has to offer and we can’t wait to see what’s in store!

We were able to chat with the Kyd the Band about his new single Easy and more!

How did “Easy” and the partnership with Elley Duhe come about?

Wrote this with Elley like 3 years ago. It was one of the first co-writing opps via my publishing deal. “Easy” was the very first  song that I turned in so it’s pretty special to me.

“Easy” came from a writing session with Elley a few years ago and then landed on an NF track first – how do you differentiate what you use for your own project vs. someone else’s?

If I’m writing for me I have this long list of things I’ve written down that are from my life or things I want to say. “Easy” started as something for Kyd the Band but originally there weren’t any plans to pitch it. Then the demo got to NF and he loved it, and wanted part of it. At the time there wasn’t really anything going on so it made sense to let go of part of the song.

The story behind “Easy” is such a big part of my own story that I knew we had to write more and have it come out at some point as a KTB track.

Sometimes I’ll start writing for me and end up with a song that doesn’t feel 100% me, and that’s when I know to pitch it. I have to have no doubts if I’m going to believe it when I sing it, and if I’m going to convince other people that I believe what I’m singing.

In the past, fans have compared to you to Twenty One Pilots or The Neighborhood and media has compared your vocals to CAKE and The Killers – given your musical range, what would you say inspires you when creating?

I grew up playing black gospel music in church, and then I started listening to rock and hip hop. So musically it’s all over the place, but I really look to 90’s alternative bands and 90’s rap for inspiration.

The single strays sonically from your past releases which are more indie/alternative leaning. Is this a sign of you moving in a new direction with your music overall or are you going to continue mixing things up?

This next wave of music is definitely less indie leaning, but I’d argue that no matter what KTB song comes out you’re always going to hear a consistent thread in the lyrics and in the grittiness of the music. I think artists should have the right to evolve, and that they shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to evolve.

What do you hope listeners take away from the track?

On “Easy” I hope listeners hear some of their own story and I hope they feel inspired to keep going. But I also hope it’s a reminder for them, that life is more than the things we pursue and to not lose sight of that.

“Easy” is the reminder I wanted to give myself (and continually give myself) to not lose myself in the game with everything I’m chasing. I feel like I’ve already had to make a lot of sacrifices in my life up to this point, and I’m still a long way from where I want to be. If the day ever comes where I feel like I’ve arrived, I wonder if I’ll be able to look back and say “yeah, that was totally worth it”. But there’s equally this part of me that wants to make something great of my life, and in order to do that, you can’t ever stop and you have to know it comes with costs. That’s just part of the game but I feel like this internal tug of war thing doesn’t ever stop.
