TRACE made her musical debut back in 2015 after leaving her life as a magazine editor behind. Since then she has amassed 60 million streams with just one EP and a few singles.

After packing up her bags and going to LA, songstress TRACE hasn’t looked back. One of her latest tracks ‘All My Friends’ perfectly describes her experience as she transitioned into her new LA lifestyle while reflecting on relationships and the power they have in our life.

There are no signs of slowing down for TRACE, fans can look forward to more singles being released this Summer, including her new track Make Me Laugh and her sophomore EP later this year.

We got a chance to talk to TRACE about her sound, her move to LA and more…

How would you describe your music?

I once described my music frantically in an elevator as lonely with a beat and that still seems pretty accurate! I’d also add, it’s emotional and conversational. If I had to “genre-fy” it, I would say it’s a moppy kind of pop with some electronic and r&b influences.

What can you tell us about your single ‘All My Friends’?

It’s the first release out of a handful of songs I’ll be sharing this year, so I’m a bit more excited than usual. The track centers around what friendship is and how our relationships change due to distance, age, and dreams. It’s also a reflection on loneliness and how social media affects the way connections are made. I want to ask the audience, “who are your friends?Who knows you? And whose voice do you let speak into your life?”

What made you pack up your bags and move to L.A.?

Before LA, I was living in San Diego and working as a full-time freelance writer. I then moved to the city to pursue a job as the Managing Editor of Darling, a quarterly women’s lifestyle magazine.

What has been the toughest thing you’ve faced whilst pursuing your career?

Patience and comparison. It’s been a growing understanding for me that the industry doesn’t have an exact formula and I’ve realized how crucial it is to define what success means to me. You have to know that your own path – no one else’s – is the right path for you.

What are your goals for the rest of 2019?

Besides releasing a body of work, I definitely hope (and look forward to) performing more. Dare I just put it out there and say, I definitely want to tour.

You got listed as Live Nation’s One To Watch – how did that feel?

It’s always an honor to get recognition for doing something that I feel grateful to do on the daily. It feels especially great when such kind words are said by Live Nation.
